Overstay fine calculator for Honduras tourist visa

Just enter your arrival and departure dates. This calculator does not check if you are over the date on your visa stamp. You can figure that out I am sure. I am not sure what 6 months and a day mean so I have erred on the side of caution in the calculation if you are on the 6 month deadline! This should only be thought of as a guide.

Immigration decisions are often arbitrary and final!

Entry Stamps and Overstay Fines in Roatan

If you’re planning to visit Honduras, it’s important to be aware of the country’s immigration laws and regulations. If you overstay your visa or the allowed time in the country, you’ll be subject to fines and other penalties. In this article, we’ll provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to pay the overstay fines in Roatan, Honduras.

You are legally allowed to stay in Honduras for 120 days. This period comprises a 90-day entry stamp and a subsequent 30-day extension that you can apply for at the immigration office before the initial 90 days expire. It’s important to understand that being legally allowed doesn’t always guarantee you’ll be permitted to stay that long. Like in all countries, including the USA and the UK, the duration of your stay is determined by the immigration officer at the time of your entry. Normally, for people with passports from the USA, UK, Canada, or Europe, it’s an automatic 90 days. Entry through San Pedro or Tegucigalpa typically grants a 90-day stay.

Roatan, however, is different. Immigration officers here often change with political shifts, and sometimes they are instructed to encourage people to apply for residency. This policy can be counterproductive as residency usually requires living in Honduras for the majority of the year, a criterion many visitors do not meet. Sometimes, these officers are instructed to scrutinize passports for frequent visitors or those attempting to enter with a one-way ticket, which, until recently, was not permitted.

The most important thing for you to do is check your passport for the date you must leave Honduras!

Additionally, be aware that the attitude of the immigration officer can greatly influence your stay. Therefore, being polite, respectful, and somewhat subservient can be beneficial. The duration of the stay they grant can vary greatly. For example, a visitor previously given 90 days might receive only 30 days or even just a week on a subsequent visit. It’s crucial to check your passport to avoid accidentally overstaying. Remember, there is no appeal process at the airport, but being aware of your leave date is essential.

Despite the initial duration granted at the airport, you should be able to extend your stay to the full 120 days. However, this requires visiting the immigration office each time your leave date approaches to apply for a 30-day extension. This process can be tedious, but the service at the immigration office is generally efficient for a Honduran government office.

How to Extend Your Visa   step by step

Step 1: Don’t go to the airport without paying the fine first. Before you consider heading to the airport, ensure you’ve paid any overstay fine. Failing to do so could result in being denied exit from the country.

Step 2: Go to Immigration. To pay the fine, visit the Immigration office located at Plaza Mar Building, 2nd Floor. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, and closes for lunch for one hour. Bring your passport and travel information.

Step 3: Obtain an invoice. At Immigration, get an invoice for the overstay fine. It will detail the fine amount and payment deadline.

Step 4: Find out which bank to use. Ask the Immigration officer for the approved banks where you can pay the fine.

Step 5: Pay the fine. Go to the bank with the invoice and sufficient cash. After paying, get a receipt from the bank.

Step 6: Return to Immigration. Bring the bank receipt back to the Immigration office. The officer will stamp your passport and provide any necessary documentation.
