Navigate your way through the Honduran system
Whether investing in a new permanent residence or a part-time vacation home, people from all over the world come to Roatan seeking happiness and well-being for themselves and their families.
Roatan, a Caribbean island off the coast of Honduras with world-renowned beaches, tropical weather, stunning reef life, a strong ex-pat community, and a continuous fun island lifestyle, is a great choice. But deciding to relocate to another country can be both exciting and daunting. There is much to learn and the adjustment period can be stressful, particularly if undertaken without guidance.
Life on Roatan contains detailed information on residency, purchasing or building a house, shipping and mail, cell service, banking, education, utilities, medical insurance, pets, and lots more. Information on these topics is freely available directly from the author, but this guidebook pulls it all together in one handy reference.
Chas Watkins, a RE/MAX agent on Roatan, represents only buyers in real estate transactions. He feels that representing both buyers and sellers creates an unacceptable conflict of interest. He is focused on using his knowledge, experience, and trademark frankness to find the property of his client’s dreams, at the best terms and the lowest possible price.
As this publication demonstrates, Chas is very knowledgeable about Island life and truly enjoys showing off its beauty and uniqueness. RE/MAX makes the buying process as smooth as possible and you know with Chas as your representative that you have an expert that is focused only on your needs.
The book’s ongoing 5-star success validates its significance
I’ve owned rental property on Roatan for several years, so I have some small foundation for evaluating the accuracy and worth of Mr. Watkin’s new book, Life on Roatan, a guidebook of “parts.” Readers coming to it with different needs will surely find a “part” suitable to their purposes. Vacationers, cruise ship daytimers, house hunters, rental property owners, permanent residents, expats, and would-be investors will all find a wealth of pertinent and reliable information. I say reliable because when Watkins isn’t sure, he says so and goes on to provide outlinks for further investigation. Even those who have been around for a few years will learn so much. From little tips to deep dives, Watkins is an astute and experienced guide. I highly recommend Life of Roatan as the very best book I have read about life in paradise.
Chas had asked me to write a foreward to his new book which I was glad to do but wasn’t too enthused about reading the book since it was a self help book about Roatan where I have lived for most of my adult life and I thought I knew all there was to know ; how wrong was I ! Roatan is a different place to what it was say even 10 years ago with so much more to offer , do , see , own. Navigating through all of this would seem daunting without someone , or a book , to answer all the questions which Chas seems to have done here. Thorough job he has done and his dry Amis’esque’ humour which appears every now and again makes it a joy to read. Highly recommended for both new and old Roatan hands.
I holidayed in Roatan some years ago, a publication such as this would have been invaluable even for the casual visitor.
Searching for info on Google prior to visiting any holiday destination is commonplace but if all you could need is contained within one existing document/publication why would you not forgo one of your numerous daily Costas or Starbucks coffees & invest your £2.49 on this!
Googles limitation is it only answers the question you ask, so ask the wrong question you get nowhere or end up pulling your hair out in frustration.
As far as I can tell, this is a comprehensive document detailing every conceivable aspect of life on & existence when on Roatan. I am not a resident but to me even those that are should find this beyond useful.
Thank you Mr Watkins!
I appreciate your endeavours & look forward to more from you.
My husband and I loved this book! It is chocked full of knowledge from a longtime Roatan ‘expat’ who is also a realtor and has lived on the island for many many years. It is written in down to earth language and feels like you are having a conversation with an honest friend! We recommend this book for newbies and established islanders who want to up their game! Bravo!
A comprehensive guide to life on Roatan which covers a range of ‘need to know areas’ for the visitor or future resident. Concisely written with some interesting information about purchasing real estate on the island and things to be aware of when investing your money here. The links to maps and advice on schools, hospitals, and shipping companies are excellent and there is advice on possible scams and problems to avoid. Great value for money.
Amazing value for only $3. It gives advice on looking for a home on the internet as well as what it is like to live there on Roatan. Interesting that some real estate websites show houses already sold! Very helpful for someone thinking about a possible move. There are lots of links to maps and advice on schools, hospitals, and shipping companies as well as down-to-earth advice on scams and problems to avoid. Easily worth a few dollars.
